in Chicago do you have'ta get a permit for structural refurbishing? I know some municipalities (like Highland IN) are Permit Crazy, for every tiny thing - mostly as a revenue generator for the municipality. What's the scoop in Chigagou? (the Algonquian word meaning "onion field.")
no, i don't think i need a permit for replacing a few treads and risers, only for bigger stuff.
the guy behind me tried adding an entire floor w/o a permit -- and got busted. they let him finish, eventually, but it sat undone for well over a year.
they even let him get away w/o adding any windows. he's got an entire 3rd floor w/o windows!

better to hide the bodies that way... or hydroponically grow things without attracting attention... or...
I think I prefer the word "embluening".
it *is* a very cromulent word.
